Your Immune System May Help You Reduce The Spread Of Acne

The problem of acne is relatively less among those who havea strong immune system. Mainly this is because the body does not allow bacteria to thrive on dead cells or on sebum that may clog skin pores. The immune system sends white blood cells anytime there is a gathering of harmful bacteria. These cells destroy the bacteria enabling the skin’s health to return. Basically, this is how the immune system reduces spread of acne .

Two lines of defense are present in our body. The skin is the first line of defense against infections . It works as a physical barrier and prevents the entry of the microorganisms into the body. Lymphocytes, antibodies, T-cells, phagocytes and memory cells are the second line ofdefense

Usually, acne is caused by acne vulgaris, a skin bacteria that is normally found on the surface of the skin. During hormonal imbalance and when excessive oil production block skin pores, the bacteria residing in the skin start producing toxic material, erupting in the form of acne.

Though acne may occur in any part of the body, it is more commonly seen on the face, shoulders and back in the form of whiteheads, blackheads, pimples and pustules. Yellowish pus observed in pimples and pustules is a collection of dead skin cells, and toxic by products produced by the bacteria. Acne usually tends to become worse when there is a case of secondary infection, leading to the formation of acne cysts and nodules.

Left alone, acne is harmless. It takes around three to four days for an acne pimple or pustule to naturally dry out and die. Unfortunately, scratching or pinching delays the process of healing, and can also lead to the formation of scars.

The healthy immune system ensures quick healing and prevents further infection. Medical studies have shown that zinc supplements boost the immune system, prevent scarring and check frequent outbreaks of acne.

When the skin is healthy, it automatically resists infection from bacterial and fungal microorganisms. Minor cuts and bruises provide a passage for the entry of microorganisms, and increase the incidence of acne infections.

The strong immune system helps in controlling the excess stimulation of hormones and release of oil from sebaceous glands. It also improves the texture and the skin tone. That is why a healthy skin is less susceptible to acne.

A strong immune system is largely dependent on lifestyle and eating habits. A good common sense well-balanced eating regimen and regular good exercise will go a long ways to strenthening the immune system, thereby helping to rid that plague of acne!
